As part of American Tire Distributors’ National Rollout Program, BCCG provided complete Design-Build services for the Birmingham, Alabama facility, using load-bearing, tilt-up concrete panels and structural steel framing for construction. The warehouse has a 4,750-square-foot office as well as 17 dock positions of varying heights. The interior has a ceiling clear height of 32 feet and has a 60-foot speed bay for optimized loading space.
Site grading involved over excavating and re-compacting 30 feet of fill, as well as blasting rock at the north end of the site to lower the site and lay the foundation. Half of the building is constructed on rock, and the other half sits on 30 feet of fill. Because of the variance in site elevations, the ground is seven feet above the finished floor at the rear of the building. Tilt-up panels were used to construct the retaining wall.
Consistently meeting ATD’s tight time frames for constructing new locations, BCCG completed this fast-track project within schedule.
